Roundrock Project Reveal: let's get colorful

Some homes whisper that they want a little refresh. This one? It shouted, “Let’s have some friggin fun already!”

Our Roundrock clients already had construction underway on a second-story addition when they called us in. Interior Design Emergency! With a contractor lined up and architectural plans already in motion, they knew they needed a Design Team to take the bones and layer in their personality: fun, polished, and playful.

Their style? Colorful. Upbeat. And absolutely unafraid. The goal was to make the new addition feel cohesive with the rest of the home, elevate the entire space both functionally and visually, and create a layered, joyful look that reflected the family’s vibe.

This was a go-big-or-go-home kind of project, which, if you’ve seen their larger-than-life lawn decorations for every holiday, won’t surprise you in the slightest. They’re a family of five with bold ideas and bigger hearts, and we were more than ready to help them bring it all to life.

THE STORY

When our clients reached out, they already had a contractor and blueprints in place, but it was just lines on a page. They needed help turning the addition into a home that truly reflected their personalities and lifestyle.

As we dug into the early conversations, they shared a personal inspiration binder they’d been compiling for a while. Think bright colors, bold shapes, and the statement that set the tone for everything that followed:

“I have to have these somewhere,” pointing to this:

Colorful gummy bear sculptures encased in clear boxes on a wooden wall. Bears in pink, blue, yellow, and red reflect light vibrantly.

Say less.

That one photo became the North Star for the entire design. From the lemon-slice wallpaper in the upstairs loft to the green-on-green utility room trimmed in brass, everything in this house feels playful but purposeful.

And most importantly, it’s built for the way this family actually lives.

THE PLAN

From the start, we knew our job was to take the fun ideas brewing in our client’s head (and binder) and bring them to life without compromising function or flow.

Our scope included new furniture, lighting, décor, and material selections for the second-story addition and select main floor spaces. We designed custom cabinetry and functional layouts that worked within the already-moving construction plan. All in all, our work spanned 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a loft, utility room, office, living room, and back patio- about 2,000+ square feet of space.

What we loved about this one? The freedom to go bold. Our client was never afraid of color or pattern (thankfully). But she also trusted us to balance the vibrant choices with practical design solutions that made sense for her family.

Translation: I don’t want to live inside a Crayola box.

And yes, while the gummy bear shadowboxes didn’t make an exact appearance, don’t worry, something even cooler did…

THE AFTER

Come take a look at all of the color, textures, and patterns we layered into the interior of this home to make it, truly a designer’s dream project and a real match made in heaven with our clients, executing their vision putting the FUN in functional.

Bold blue cabinets living room ribbed cabinetry

Step through the front door and bold blue cabinets give you a preview of what’s ahead. In the living room, a real star awaits: custom divided ribbed cabinetry, dreamt up as a mash-up of ideas and now one of our all-time favorites.

Cozy living room with blue cabinets, a large TV, and a stone fireplace. Bright decor, books, and art add color and style. Peaceful vibe.

Like most families we work with, the husband wanted to go big with the TV - and we did. Since this room is front and center, we made it intentional with glass display shelves and those fun, bubbly sconces to balance it all out.

We also had room for a surprise there at the far end, you’ll have to keep reading…

bubble sconce living room

Not to mention the storage… the real hero here. While these cabinets may be the coolest thing since sliced bread, their superpower is hiding the everyday chaos: electronics, toys, all of it. Who says you can’t tuck it all behind a pretty door with brass hardware and call it a day?! NOT US.

Two blue armchairs with red striped cushions in a cozy living room. Stone fireplace features colorful art. Coffee table with decor items.

But wait, there’s more! The furniture holds its own, too: big, comfy upholstery you can sink right into, like these chairs with the cutest contrast welt detail and a quirky hot-pink pillow for just the right hit of sass.

Modern living room with blue cabinets, a large TV, white couch, gray chairs, ceiling fan, and fireplace. Bright and cozy setting.

Did we mention that the sectional RECLINES! You heard that right!

living room bar ribbed cabinetry ice maker fridge

Remember that surprise at the end of the cabinet run? Bet you didn’t guess a full built-in bar; fridge and freezer drawers, ice maker and all! Finished with a custom antique mirror and the same gorgeous detailing.

Blue and white living room with modern chairs, patterned table, open book, plants, and a TV on a teal cabinet. Cozy atmosphere.

And what home bar would be complete without a pair of cozy swivel chairs to enjoy that cocktail? These swivel to enjoy the patio beyond, pulled up to handmade bone inlay table bringing in tons of visual interest.

Does all of this have you wondering, what’s next!? Let’s head down the hall.

Bright home office with pink-striped curtains, wooden desk, and potted plants. Colorful decor and photos adorn white walls.

The lady of the house is a total mom-boss, and since she works from home part-time, she deserved an office to match.

We toned down the pink (a little) in the common areas as a compromise to the men in the house… but in her office? All bets were off.

colorful office pink glasscloth credenza

Find the pink: striped drapery - yes.

Custom-painted grasscloth console - absolutely.

Neon pink frames - of course.

And that’s before we even get to the art.

Bright room with pink cabinet, green plants, art on walls, and a desk with a monitor. Vibrant decor creates a cheerful atmosphere.

We also wanted her desk to work for both sitting and standing. Standing desks are generally hideous, but we tracked down one that does both and looks good doing it.

Green cabinet with decor, including a photo, books, and plants. A wooden desk and colorful abstract art in a bright room.

Behind the desk, a Zoom back drop that she could be proud of (with you guessed it, more storage, we are big on storage).

Speaking of storage, most homes have a utility room, right - but they rarely do their job well. We fixed that in this home and gave it the full TLD treatment.

Your laundry room is about to be jealous of this glow-up.

Laundry room with green cabinets, black washer and dryer, patterned floor, and hanging light. Window with plants and decor beneath.

We transformed this space that was once a cluttered office, going all in on green - walls, cabinets, even the patterned floor tile. Then sealed the deal with bold brass accents.

Green kitchen with pantry shelves holding plants, woven basket, and colorful jars. A black appliance and a wine fridge are nearby.

The brass mesh fronts do the heavy lifting, hiding bulk buys with a perfect mix of beauty and brains.

And a built-in clothes rod means no more draping damp laundry over the nearest chair, now air-drying with dignity in a designated space.

Bright green laundry room with black washer, clothes on a rod, and a plant on a wooden counter. Light from a window creates a fresh vibe.

One more functional feature, butcher block counters add a durable surface for folding, plus a tucked-in desk nook to keep life’s little to-dos (bills, returns, rogue permission slips) from taking over the kitchen island. Making this room an actual WORKHORSE.

With that, we’ve hit peak fun-meets-function downstairs -  now let’s take it to the new upstairs addition, where the kids rule the roost!

storage stair landing

First stop, tell me what’s better than storage to fill out the new stair landing…

Blue laundry room with a black washing machine behind open cabinet doors. Shelves hold woven baskets. Gold handles accent the cabinets.

Surprise! A second washer and dryer, because hauling laundry across the house is highly overrated. And this set-up comes complete with adjustable shelves so each kiddo can slide in their hamper.

Once upstairs, you are greeted by the funkiest little loft in all the land, a transitional space for kids to gather outside of their rooms.

Blue room with a velvet sofa, colorful pillows, and geometric ceiling. Art on the wall above a console with books and a plant.

Remember those neon gummy bears that kicked off this whole design? We pivoted slightly to rainbow popsicles with sprinkles. Because when in doubt, always choose sprinkles.

Striped console with plants and books, framed popsicle art on a blue wall. Warm lighting, colorful and modern decor. Text: Jaipur Splendor, Mexico City.

And lets not forget THE LEMON SLICE WALLPAPER paired with a playful floral chandelier, that we custom painted to match the vibe.

Cozy room with blue shelves, floral bench, and blue sofa. Orange blanket drapes over sofa. Ceiling features yellow patterned design.

We tucked in furniture that that can be rearranged as these little ones grow to make this area a play zone, a reading nook, or a cozy spot for Saturday morning cartoons.

Blue room with colorful cushions on a couch. Shelves hold a tiger framed picture, books, a plant, and bright photo frames. Cozy vibe.

With shelves and cabinets to display their things and hide the mess!

One of the perks of adding more square footage? You get to make every inch work harder for your family. In this case, it meant smarter storage everywhere, but also a personalized bedroom for each kid that feels totally, unapologetically them. Let’s take a peek!

Cozy bedroom with a striped bed, bull painting, and gray shelf holding football helmets and toys. Sunlit through windows with gray blinds.

6-year-old twins rooming apart for the first time means that one gets all the little boy things he could dream of, while his sister lives in a girly-pop wonderland (keep scrolling)…

Bedroom with striped bedding, colorful pillows, and a desk by the window. A bull painting and "Learn" poster add charm. Cozy vibe.

Sports memorabilia, desk and display space, the works, to let this bedroom grow with him!

Modern bedroom with a bed, green and beige pillows, and a striped duvet. A nightstand with a lamp and hat, a painting of a cow, and a window with trees outside.

The other plus to your own room, sharing a cool manly boy-cave of a bathroom with your older brother.

Modern bathroom vanity with a round mirror, black fixtures, dark countertop, wooden cabinetry, and a potted plant. Navy tile backsplash.

We helped in selecting the finish and fixtures to match those ideas that lived on our client’s dream binder to make this jack-n-jill bath modern and masculine for boys that will continue to grow using this space.

black white shower shampoo niche

And you know us, we never miss a chance for a good shampoo niche. Storage? Always happening.

Bedroom with gray bedspread, blue and brown pillows on bed, teal bench, nightstand with lamp, dresser, and wall-mounted TV. Bright window view.

Quick look at big brother’s room, where the furniture needed to be a bit more refined to reflect his age (and 6 foot stature)!

Now let’s head on over to GIRL WORLD!

Bedroom with colorful graffiti wall featuring hearts and smiley faces. Bed with "HADLEIGH" pillow, soft pastel tones, and cozy decor.

A world that’s full of color and contrast! We loaded this room up with furniture and all the fun styling that screams confidence and sass in all the best ways.

Bedroom with a white bed, colorful pillows saying Hadleigh, green lamps on wooden nightstands, and light filtering through windows.

No color was off limits as we layered all the patterns and details to tie in the showstopping commissioned graffiti mural – I mean, something I would have died for as a 90's girl!

That AND my very own bathroom, I mean, C’MON! No sharing with gross brothers and my own vanity? Sign me up.

Pink vanity and cabinets with mirrors in a pastel bathroom. Unicorn decor on wall. Marble floor features purple and white circular rugs.

Let’s be honest, bubblegum pink can go real right or real wrong. Without a doubt, this bathroom nailed it. Complete with a lighted mirror fit for a future Broadway star, it’s giving main-character energy in the best way.

Glass shower with pink tiles and gold fixtures. A pink and white rug is on the marble floor. A butterfly artwork is partially visible.

We hunted down the perfect combination of tile to make sure the shower was a showstopper. One of our favorite tricks is to use a subway tile in a fresh new pattern to make it sing! And we found a pink mosaic marble floor tile to compete.

Shower area with pink tiles, glass door, and shelves holding lotion bottles. Light and calm ambiance with a view into a bedroom.

Can’t forget that shampoo niche!

Pink bathroom vanity with gold faucet and marble countertop. Colorful patterned window shade. Bright ambiance with a modern finish.

And a vanity sink space decked out with the cutest sconces and a nod to the all the bedroom fun with a roman shade to match.

And with that, we’ve toured bedrooms, bathrooms, and every space in between - but there’s one more spot you’ve got to see. Out back, where the good vibes roll straight onto the patio.

Outdoor patio with white sofas, black armchairs, and striped rug. Ceiling fans above, with plants on the table. Warm, inviting atmosphere.

5 stars. Would definietly spend an evening out here.

These clients know a good time and good design as proven INSIDE and OUT in their home. In fact, we just got a note that they headed home from Mexico with lit sculptural piece to complete this space! Yesssss.

We loved collaborating with Fallen Tree Construction to bring this project to life. And even more, we loved getting to say “yes” to the kind of big, joyful design ideas that let our creativity run wild.
