Nearly 10 years ago I left a pretty sweet position at a large design firm because I was burned out and wanted to spend more time with my boys. Our family income took a huge hit with my "early retirement" and we were a little bit house-poor. But on the plus side I found myself with something I'd never had before.

So I started helping friends and family with their design projects, hoping to make enough extra cash to be able to take the kids to Chick-fil-A without having to check my bank account first. I began helping my friends and neighbors transform their homes to serve their families and their unique lifestyles. Most had never worked with an Interior Designer and didn't know that it didn't have to be intimidating or difficult. In fact, it could be really fun.

and then it grew from there...

Steven, Photography + Ops

Lawyer turned photographer and business manager. I help these ladies with the behind the scenes business so they can do what they do best (which, let me tell you, is not math). I also happen to be Tara's husband and run this family business alongside her.

Parker, Interior Designer

A creative spirit with an obsession of all things artful and just a tad bit funky. Here for all the colors and contrast! My free time is spent loving on my pets, playing artist, or kicking around a soccer ball.

I’m Tara, and I want to live in a world where design isn’t reserved for the ultra-rich. My goal is to make home your happy place by designing it uniquely for you and your family. We want to create beauty every day and bring richness to the lives of our people.

Investing in your home is about more than bricks and mortar and curtains and couches. Done well, your home can be a source of calm, inspiration, and sanctuary. And that feeling spills over into every area of your life.

Our 'special sauce' is a blend of experience, strategy, empathy, and intuition. We strive to bring a rare perspective to the design process: more than just designing beautiful spaces, we are passionate about creating individualized solutions tailored to the lives of our clients. We partner with our clients to bring their perfect space to life.

And we don't just stop at design. We love to create and share resources around all things home to serve as many folks as possible. Products we love, financial strategies for saving for your biggest projects, simplicity, minimalism, renovation tips, design hacks, recipes, streamlining, and so much more. Like...

It's not about replicating your Pinterest board, it's about creating a beautiful, functional space that fits you.

Every day can be Taco Tuesday if you just believe.

Your home, your gifts, and your whiskey are best shared with friends.

Doing things just because they're pretty. They have to function first.

Cookie cutter design solutions.

Seafood. I'm sorry, it's disgusting.

Wearing a TCU sweatshirt but not knowing who we're playing or when the next game is.

Baking bread, drinking iced coffee, and dancing to 90's alternative radio with my 3 boys.

Cooking, eating, and thinking about tacos and Thai food.

- our shop -

HA&Co. horiz black.png
As Interior Designers we are constantly on the hunt for beautiful, affordable art for our clients’ homes, but often found that art was either: very beautiful and therefore expensive and not in their budget, or very affordable…but not very pretty.
This is where Humble Abode was born.
Combining my love of making with my passion for Interior Design led us to create and curate beautiful, affordable art to fill our client’s walls. From abstract landscapes to graphic art and vintage pieces, everything in our shop runs through the filter of our design experience. Pieces that fit in with modern color palettes, that feel collected and “lived in”, and are made to look great inside your home.

"We hired TLD based on a recommendation. We have worked with other designers in the past and we truly appreciate both your creative and business acumen. Not all creative people have the organizational skills to run a business, but you do both so well!

We are already brainstorming our next project and TLD will be our first call!
