As an Interior Designer, I spend all day picking out pretty things for people: tile, lighting, decor, paint, furniture, accessories, the whole shabang. It's the dream. I get to know our clients, figure out all of their favorite things and what makes their heart sing (even if they don't know what their favorite things are), and then get to present it to them in a pretty, curated package.
Now, you'd think, then, that I would be amazing at giving gifts to the people closest to me, what with all of my aesthetic magic and curated shopping talents.
Wellllllllllllllllllllllllllll.
That's a bit trickier. Sometimes (always) it's hardest to find gifts for the people you're closest to. Why? Two reasons:
You don't have perspective. You're too close to it. And you know what they already have, so second guess yourself on buying anything that might be too close to something they own.
The pressure. The longer you've known someone, the more you feel the pressure to get them the perfect thing of all things. Maybe this is just me as a perfectionist, but it's a struggle.
TL;DR: Specific people are difficult to shop for. But general people are not.
