DIY kitchen reno plan and progress - we might be crazy
You might have seen on Instagram last week that we have been planning our kitchen renovation. If money was no object, I have a really nice kitchen planned up in my head that involves moving a water heater, AC blower, and moving a bunch of HVAC around, all new cabinets, a professional gas range...to the tune of about $75,000. Since that's just a teeeeeeensy bit out of budget, we are going to DIY a kitchen refresh instead. Now you might be thinking that since I am a designer an

eclectic bathroom: before & after
Good morning! Coming at you on this short week (Memorial Day plus last day of the school year is making for a great week) with a little before and after. I love a good transformation, and this one is not going to disappoint, you guys. When I met with Kenzi late last year, we dreamed up some big renovations for her home. As a homeschooling mom to three kids, she spends a lot of time at home. And as someone who spends a lot of time at home myself, I can tell you that your house

living room: all grown up
Kelly and Shaun came to me with a problem that so many of us in our 30s experience - a case of the space rut. In our 20s we are eager to get our lives going and building up a bank account (or having some bar money) so we will take any hand me down / garage sale / Craig's list / IKEA pieces we can get to begin to build our grown up place. But then time goes on, and maybe we get a bit more money, and we want to entertain our friends at home rather than bar hopping, and we sudde

farmhouse master bath renovation (on a budget)
So many great things came from the 80s. The music of Michael Jackson. All things neon. Bedazzled sweatshirts. Top Gun. And, well, ME. So much to love. Not this, though. Y’all. I’ve seen a lot of dated bathrooms, and this one is right up there with them. It’s not even that it is offensive with its 80s-ness. It was just. so. boring. When my sweet friend Chelsea and her new hubby Travis reached out for help with their master bathroom, Tara Lenney and her wrecking ball came to th

modern master retreat - before and after
Master suites have kind of become my jam. The reason why is that so many of us save this space for last, when really, it could be argued that your bedroom might be the most important place to start. It’s the place where we begin and end our days. If those 'bookend experiences' in your day aren’t remotely inspiring, and beyond that, cause you stress, what kind of day (or life) are you setting yourself up for? Now, I’m not saying go crazy and spend all your money on your room a

Neighbors becoming friends, and then friends becoming clients, is kind of my jam. In our old neighborhood in Dallas we all lived in these small (by Texas standards) little houses. They were all about 1500 square feet or less, and separated by chain link fences. I know what you are picturing - cars on cinderblocks, people in the front yard in their underwear - and you are mostly incorrect. Our fences were covered in honeysuckle vine. Our next door neighbor had an overflowing g

Behind the scenes - craftsman bungalow master bath
I am positively giddy to share some of the behind the scenes photos of how this master bath came to be for 2 reasons. First, because I want to show a bit of the process of how we get from "we need a new bathroom" to "we LOVE our new bathroom!" Second, because I got to work with friends on this, and working with friends is my favorite. The owners of this fantastic 1925 Craftsman Bungalow are my pals, Alex and Stacey. Alex and I have been friends for (gasp!) 13 YEARS since we a
